Training and Advancement
Every scout deserves a trained leader
And every Leader deserves training so s/he can successfully deliver the scouting program. The scouting program has evolved over 75 years of Cub Scouting and almost one hundred years for Boy Scouts. The training we get equips us to lead our boys-and is fun in its own right. I look on training and leading as "scouting for grown-ups" and as parents and leaders we can play a vitally important role in our sons lives.
Cub Scout Leaders are considered trained when they have completed Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, and Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, Scoutmaster Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. Pack or Troop Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, and Committee Specific Training. Training of adults to successfully deliver the Boy Scout program has evolved into a well-presented, thorough, curriculum of courses to be completed in sequence.
Most of these courses are FREE-to register. Send an email with your name, pack # and position to Stephani Cuddie.

New On-Line Training to Replace New Leader Essentials
"This is Scouting" has been added to the BSA's on-line Learning Center. "This is Scouting" replaces New Leader Essentials as a required course for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing volunteers to earn the "Trained" leader emblem. This new training session will enable more to take advantage of the training courses offered by the Boy Scouts of America in order to provide the best program for our Scouts. This online training session will take about an hour to complete. To access this and other on-line training courses, go to the Boy Scouts of America External Linkwebsite and select the MyScouting tab. Once logged in, you can access the ELearning site.
All Scouters are encouraged to create a MyScouting account and access this training through the MyScouting portal, as credit for this training will be recorded on your membership records. The training courses taken will be linked to your membership ID number so have your membership ID handy. Remember in order to be trained for your position you must complete the following: 1. Youth Protection (online) 2. Fast Start for your position (online) 3. This is Scouting (online) 4. Position Specific
Contact the District Training Chairman, Stephani Cuddie for more information about upcoming local training oportunities.
Currently the Training team is seeking new staff to assist in the training of all the new leaders. If you are interested in becoming a District Training Staff Member please contact Stephani Cuddie, or any one of the Key Three if you have additional questions.
To check out other training oportunites within the Central Florida Council look at the council calendar and/or go to a specific area of interest in http://training.cfcbsa.org/bulletin_board.html.
Eagle Scout Process
The Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, commonly referred to as a Life to Eagle packet is available on-line and can be downloaded at www.nesa.org/trail. Please encourage your Life Scouts to download theirs today!
Remember that scouts are not to begin work on their Eagle projects until the planning portion and signature process is complete. Four specific signatures are required. Scouts should contact Mike Grofik 768-2452 for District Advancement signature prior to the start of their project.
Unit Advancement Chairmen should contact Jim Breitmeier at 723-3606 to schedule a District Advancement Committee member attending an Eagle Board of Review. An extra copy of the Eagle project packet needs to be turned in at all Eagle Boards of Review. The Advancement Committee reviews these packets and selects three projects to go forward to Council to compete annually for an NESA award.
Merit Badge Counselors
Remember that paperwork, counselors. To become a Merit Badge Counselor, a leader must complete two forms. The first is an adult application. All signatures must be completed on the form, including Jim Breitmeier’s signature. All blanks need to be completed. The second form is the Merit Badge Counselor form. Both of these forms get sent to Jim Breitmeier, NOT to Council. The Council just returns these forms to the District so they can be sent to Jim. Jim Breitmeier can be reached at 321-723-3606, jimb1964@cfl.rr.com.
Woodbadge
Woodbadge Training for Leaders. All Adult leaders should strive to attend this two-weekend course. Leadership and teambuilding are the two main concepts. The whole team needs to be included.
