Fun
Scouting... is fun
If you're not having fun... then you're doing something wrong. I know my den has gotten in a rut before. The scouting experience for our boys is more than what's in the book. Break your routine by meeting at a park and going for a hike. Invite the guys over, throw them a soccer ball and watch them play until it gets dark. It is so important to get outdoors. Plan a backyard smores event next Friday night. Mix things up.
I've found that there are four major components of Scouting, and often people never see all we have to offer. Den and Patrol time is one. Reinforcing what we do at home is another. Camping and outdoor activities is the third and summer camp is the fourth. This summer, we missed the big trip to Camp Daniel Boone because we just joined the Troop. So we went to LaNoChe, our local camp. Two dads, three scouts and one week later and we were transformed. We learned so much about scouting, met a ton of new scouters from all over the world, and began our second stage of scouting. Don't miss out on Summer camp.
